The Margazhi season is very special in Chennai – there is a festive air about the entire city with kolams and thoranams dotting the streets. Music and dance performances take place in full flow painting the town with differently hued ragams and thalams. And as always in the same breath as festive, music , dance and colours are the ever popular Kanjivaram saris.

Kalapana Mohan , writer from California, interviews a few of the city’s artists about their performances and their attires, for The Hindu.
